Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas Whoville Layout Painting with The Noble Approach Book (MGM, 1966). "Fahoo forays, dahoo dorays, welcome Christmas! Come this way. Fahoo forays, dahoo dorays, welcome Christmas, Christmas Day." Presented is an original layout/concept painting of the establishing shot of Whoville seen at the 1:21 mark of the 1966 holiday special masterpiece How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Rendered beautifully in graphite and watercolor by the great Maurice Noble (1911 - 2001), this fantastic design by one of animation's greatest production designers is used very faithfully in the final film. This exact piece can be seen on page 35 of the book The Noble Approach: Maurice Noble and the Zen of Animation Design, and the book is even included in this lot. Maurice Noble, right-hand man of director Chuck Jones, defined the look and feel of many mid-century cartoons with Warner Brothers and MGM in collaboration with Jones. His hand in the production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas contributed to the special's status as a quintessential and timeless household classic. The drawing comes with a Linda Jones Certificate of Authenticity. This piece, rendered on 12 field animation paper, is framed under Plexiglas with a mat window size of 11.5" x 8.5" and an overall frame size of 25.5" x 22.5" and a depth of 2".
