    Description

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas Production Art by Maurice Nobel (MGM, 1966). This lot is pure Maurice Noble (1911 - 2001). Mr. Noble was in charge of Production Design for this landmark television special that aired for the first time on CBS on 12/18/66. This original Maurice Noble artwork is a vertical pan of the Christmas Tree that sat in the center of Whoville. It's framed with a mat opening of 33" x 9.5", and a frame of 43" x 19". Notes on the this magnificent work of art read: Bob (to background artist Bob Inman) "This will be the lightest blue sky we select." Side border is marked BG SC6-7, and "These are combined continuous footage." The artwork is comprised of graphite and colored marker on vertical pan animation paper. There is some water staining on top left border and bottom left border; otherwise, condition is Fine. The balance of the tree image is unscathed. Both an important and beautiful piece of original production artwork by the hand of one of animation's great background artists and layout designers. A Linda Jones Certificate of Authenticity is included.
