Don Quixote Concept Art by Ferdinand Horvath (Walt Disney, c. 1930s). This lot includes two drawings of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza from the hand of Ferdinand Horvath (1891 - 1973). Mr. Horvath was a Hungarian-born artist who worked at Walt Disney Studios from 1933 to 1937. He was a concept artist, an idea and story man, and character development artist. These rare concept studies were done for the studio's first pass at Don Quixote. The studio worked on development of this story for a cartoon from the 1930s well into the 1960s. We have seen concept art done for this project from Jessie Marsh, Martin Provision, Marc Davis, Jack Miller, and Walt Peregoy, to name just a few. Artwork is in graphite and pastels on paper measuring 4" x 7" and 4" x 5". These character studies are glued to a sheet of 12 field 2-peghole animation sheet. Bottom right has the notation "F.H. Horvath Hollywood." The number 13 is in top right corner. Minor handling and edge wear. Some glue bleed on borders of panels. Overall condition is Good.
