Doctor Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas Grinch Concept Art (MGM, 1966). How the Grinch Stole Christmas made its network debut on 12/18/1966. This historic holiday special was directed by Chuck Jones and was based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name. Chuck Jones and Ted Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) met during WWII while making the Private Snafu military training films at Warner Brothers. This lot is a pure piece of Grinch History. It's one of the first Grinch concept drawings to come from the hand of Chuck Jones, and shows the furry green meanie with a larger belly. This early model drawing is accompanied by one of the first hand-painted Grinch cels. The Color Model was made directly from Chuck's Character Design/Model Sheet drawing. The nice large images measure about 10". Early concept art from this thirty-minute special is just about non-existent. Both the trimmed drawing and cel are matted together with an opening of 9" x 11" and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 20" x 22.5". A Linda Jones COA is on the back of the frame. One of the rarest pieces of pure Grinch art we have seen. Fine condition. From the Chuck Jones Archives.
