Description

Doctor Doolittle Rare "Sea Star Island" Scene Concept Painting Original Art (20th Century Fox, 1967). This musical fantasy film starring Rex Harrison in the title role of a nineteenth century veterinarian who talked to animals was based on a 1920s series of novels by Hugh Lofting. It premiered on 12/12/1967 in London, and in the US seven days later. But before the movie could be shown, or even filmed, much planning took place. That included hiring artists to create images of how certain scenes might look, and here is just such a painting. It shows the good Doctor and his crew of Matthew, Tommy, and Emma plus a Sea Star Island guide as they search for the gigantic Great Pink Sea Snail. The unsigned gouache on Bristol board painting may be the work of Duane Alt, or possibly David A. Constable, both fine artists who created concept movie scene paintings for 20th Century Fox and various other studios. The art has an approximate overall image of 17.75" x 7.75" and is placed on a backing board noted as "Three" in the lower left. It's matted with an aperture opening of 18.5" x 9" and framed with glass for an overall size of 24.75" x 15.5". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The art is in Very Good to Fine condition with light handling.
