Description

Cinderella Original Cinderella Layout Drawing by Ken O'Connor (Walt Disney, 1950). "Good night." After Lady Tremaine bids her stepdaughter farewell to attend the ball, Cinderella runs, tattered dress in all, through the house and out to the garden. That heartbreaking sequence is captured in this stunning charcoal and conté crayon layout created by Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998). O'Connor studied at Melbourne Technical College, the Australian National Gallery, and the California School of Art and joined Disney in 1935 where he worked as a layout artist and director on numerous animated features and shorts, including Pinocchio, Fantasia, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp to name a few. He was adept at using lighting and shadow to create the mood for the sequence and this incredibly detailed layout, made for the sequence starting at about 41:39, is the perfect example of how his phenomenal work set the stage for the animators. The layout takes up almost the entire 21.5'' x 7.75'' page and immediately transports you to one of the worst moments in Cinderella's life. The lot has a trimmed and attached 1 in the lower left and is in Good to Very Good condition with light handling wear, faint toning, pinholes, and creases where the layout was folded.
