Description
Cinderella Early Development Art by Ken O'Connor Group of 23 with Studio-Printed Mice Ideas Model Sheet and Cinderella's Room Aerial View (Walt Disney, 1950). Journey back to the early planning stages of one of Disney's most memorable animated films, Cinderella, with this outstanding group of 23 pieces of development art by the renowned layout artist and Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998). A graduate of the California School of Art, O'Connor joined Disney in 1935, where he became instrumental in the creation of almost 100 animated shorts and 13 feature films, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio, before retiring in 1978. This treasure trove of development art offers a fascinating glimpse into the steps taken to arrive at the Cinderella we know and love today. Among the art in this lot, you'll find a drawing of a mouse half-transformed into a horse, drawings for Gus and "Leader" (now known as Jaq), along a mouse mother and her two kids, two drawings of the royal herald, a detailed image of Cinderella's Stepmother, a rough sketch of Cinderella in her ballroom dress, drawings of Major's transformation into coachman, and as well as small drawings to plan for the layouts of the farm, and Cinderella's room, among many more. These drawings are done in graphite, charcoal, and color pencil on 16-field and 12-field animation sheets, as well as 5.25" x 4" studio paper. Also included are studio-printed copies showing a detailed aerial view of Cinderella's room on 12-field animation sheet and "Mice Ideas," showing various versions of Cinderella's rodent friends, featuring the production code for the movie, 2063, measuring 17" x 14". The Mice Ideas sheet shows a fold crease in the middle. Overall, the lot showcases various degrees of handling and edge wear from production, as well as typical age-related toning.
