Calypso Cay Original Concept/Pitch Art for Proposed Cruise Ship Destination by Eric Heschong at Landmark Entertainment (LEG, c. 1990s). This original concept/pitch artwork was created by Landmark Entertainment Group in the 1990s for a proposed cruise ship destination called Calypso Cay. Beautifully rendered in gouache on a 37" x 16" board by renowned concept illustrator Eric Heschong (1950-2013), the vibrant painting captures the spirit of an immersive island paradise. The scene depicts a lush seaside village complete with palm-lined shores, faux pirate ships docked in tropical lagoons, and a faux volcano rising at the center of one lagoon. Offshore, a cruise ship anchors against the horizon, emphasizing the site's role as a themed port of call. Eric Heschong was an accomplished illustrator and background painter whose career spanned animation, themed entertainment, and fine art. After early work at CBS Studio City and Hanna-Barbera, he became a master presentation artist for Landmark, producing richly detailed renderings for ambitious projects worldwide. His clients also included Universal Studios, where he helped visualize major ride concepts, and Walt Disney Imagineering, contributing admired Tomorrowland renderings. This rare Heschong original is a superb artifact of Landmark's visionary cruise-destination proposals.
