    Description

Bible Storyland "Colossus of Rhodes" Concept Hand-Embellished Print (1960). The Colossus of Rhodes was a giant statue of the Greek titan-god of the sun, Helios. It was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was originally erected on the Greek island of Rhodes in bronze, close to the size of the Statue of Liberty. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC. There was a proposal to erect a similar statue for Park décor and photo opportunity within Bible Storyland. This is Bruce Bushman's concept drawing for this giant park feature. Bottom right corner has printed "Colossus of Rhodes Bushman." Amazing detail to this statue on the water; and unlike other pieces from this collection, this one appears to be a hand-drawn original rather than an embellished brown-line print. Graphite and Conte crayon on brown paper measuring approximately 24.25" x 19". Minor handling and edge wear. Fine condition.
