Beauty and the Beast Background Color Key/Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1991). This amazing little image of a grand staircase is a Color Key/concept painting from Disney's blockbuster animated feature film Beauty and the Beast. Color Keys serve as a way for directors and layout designers to establish early in a film's development a look and feel of the various scenes and settings. They also help in establishing a color palette and tone. Background artists and animators then use these preliminary thumbnail paintings as references for creating the finished environments in the film. This is a 1.5" x 2" watercolor painting of a staircase in the beast's castle and the detail in this diminutive work of art is exquisite. Beauty and the Beast was the first Disney film to make the big step to CGI for many of its backgrounds, so there is a very limited amount of production art available to collectors. This is a true tiny treasure from a very big film. The piece is framed with a mat opening of 1.5" x 2" in a 5" x 6" frame. Condition is Fine. Frame is sold as-is.
