Bambi Background Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1942). Here is a brilliant concept background painting from Bambi. The term "concept art" was first used by the Walt Disney Animation Studios as early as the 1930s. Concept art is developed through several iterations where multiple solutions are explored before settling on the final design. Once the development of the work is complete, concept art may be reworked and used in production. The piece offered in this lot is attributed to the hand of Tyrus Wong (1910 - 2016). In addition to being the lead production illustrator on Bambi, Wong was an animator and storyboard artist for Disney, he was also a set designer on multiple films including; Rebel Without a Cause for Warner Brothers and Around the World in 80 Days for United Artists. The concept piece offered in this lot is an extraordinary little painting, trimmed to 7.5" x 10" with 2002 stamped on the back (production number not date). This piece stands alone as a stunning work of art even without the impressive provenance. Enclosed in a glass-fronted frame of 16.5" x 13.75" with an aperture of 9.5" x 7". Frame sold as-is. Minor handling and wear with pin holes in the corners from production use. Condition is Very Good.
