Atlantis: The Lost Empire Early Theatrical Advance Concept Art by John Alvin (Walt Disney, 2001). Kida, the princess of Atlantis, and the main cast of characters from Atlantis: The Lost Empire take the spotlight in this phenomenal lot that presents the concept art for an early theatrical advice poster created by the acclaimed artist John Alvin. Breaking away from many Disney conventions at the time, Atlantis: The Lost Empire was the studio's first science-fiction animated feature film; it strongly emphasized action and adventure and showcased no characters performing musical numbers. The film also displayed a unique art direction, featuring production design by Matt Codd, Ricardo F. Delgado, James J. Martin, and distinctively, Mike Mignola of Hellboy fame. This incredible artwork created by John Alvin, the acclaimed artist behind famous movie posters for over 135 films, features a fabulous image of Kida front and center, framed by the crew of the Ulysses: commander Rourke, Helga, Moliere, Vinny, Audrey, Dr. Sweet, and our protagonist Milo Thatch, with the King of Atlantis in the background. The mixed media piece measures an image size of 6" x 9.5" is signed by Alvin in the lower area, and is presented on a 14.5" x 17" Plexiglas-fronted frame with a 7.75" x 10.25" mat opening. The lot includes a Linda Jones COA, misidentifying the piece as being from Treasure Planet, rather than Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The frame shows a dedication by John Alvin on its back that reads "The finder of "The Lost Empire" 03/19/05 John Alvin." All frames are sold as-is.
