Alice in Wonderland Tulgey Wood Signpost Concept Painting by Mary Blair (Walt Disney, 1951). "I've had enough nonsense, I'm going home! Straight home! ...Tulgey Wood? Curious I do not remember this." says Alice as she comes upon the many directional signs posted on a large tree. This is an extremely elaborate painting by Mary Blair of a confused Alice as comes upon the Tulgey Wood. In the book The Art and Flair of Mary Blair: An Appreciation, John Canemaker writes on page 47, "In Alice in Wonderland, a project that had fascinated and confounded Walt Disney since his earliest days as a filmmaker, a considerable amount of 'Mary' does appear on screen." There are an amazing 26 confusing signs in this painting as Alice first arrives to the Tulgey Wood. This magnificent Mary Blair concept/Color Key original painting is in gouache on board. The art is matted with an opening of 12" x 10" and framed using Plexiglas for an overall size of 20" x 17". This is one of the most visually stunning Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) Alice pieces we have seen. Frame is sold as-is, minor handling wear to the art. Condition is Very Good. From the Howard Lowery Collection
