Alice in Wonderland Concept Art with Dialog (Walt Disney, 1951). An extremely rare original pastel concept drawing created for Alice in Wonderland. Work on this animated feature film originally began in the 1940s. Disney Legend Inductee Mr. Ken Anderson (1909 - 1993) was one of the early character artists and stylists on this film. This rare early concept artwork of Alice is from the collection of Mr. Charles "Cap" Palmer (1901 - 2005). He worked on early story development for Alice in Wonderland for almost five years. Mr. Palmer went on to become a film screenwriter. Art is in pastels on 12 field 5-peghole black animation paper, stapled to a 16 field 5-peghole animation page as a backing paper. A stapled piece of paper along the bottom edge reads "She Finds the Door Too Small -- Drinks 'Drink Me' -- Grows Small. Eats Cake. Grows Tall -- Crys." This dialogue is reportedly written by Cap Palmer with help from Aldus Huxley. Alice measures 3.5" in the multi-colored corridor. One of the most unique early development pieces of Alice we have seen. A clear sheet of acetate is over the artwork for protection. Backing sheet has major handling and edge wear, with rips along the borders; the black paper with art is intact. Dialogue sheet has a rip in it. Overall condition of the art is Very Good.Auction Info
