    Description

Alex Toth and Tony Sgroi Yankee Doodle Daring Main Characters Concept Art Group of 2 (Hanna-Barbera, 1966). Yankee Doodle Pigeon bowed in 1969, as a character on Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. It seems the name of Yankee Doodle for a character was first considered in 1966 for a proposed WWI Series. These amazing montages showcase original artwork for a series that would have featured a flying ace named Yankee Doodle Daring, as well as villains Baron von Skull and Gen. Kondor Klaus. Displayed herein are 11 original character designs of these three characters. All are cut out and mounted to black presentation board of 22" x 28". Each board is hand-titled with character names in tempera showcard lettering, with copyright notices for Hanna-Barbera Productions at bottom. These would have been used to pitch networks, sponsors, staff, and H-B Executives. The artwork is from the hands of Alex Toth (1928-06) and Tony Sgroi (1924-98). One Yankee Doodle Daring piece is signed by Alex Toth. What a rare look into the inner workings of Hanna-Barbera during a fertile and prolific surge of creativity! Minor handling and edge wear. All artwork is rendered in graphite and black marker, with colored markers. In Fine condition.
