Aladdin Early Pan Concept/Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, c. 1992). This incredible drawing provides a rare look at art from the development of Walt Disney's 1992 animated feature film Aladdin. Aladdin is one of the most beloved films of the Disney Renaissance, and it earned two Academy Awards as well as a Grammy Award. This fantastic, huge drawing was used in the development of the film. The drawing depicts a tall, stretching view of a tower, with a sinister-looking elephant-like creature looming at the side. In early development of Aladdin, the story team was considering following its source material from One Thousand and One Nights more closely. This would have included a second genie, the "Genie of the Ring." At least one piece of early concept art for these early genie designs included elephant-like features, drawing on the lore of the djinn that the Genie was based on. It is possible that this drawing may have been part of the development for this character, or it may have been a more ominous take on the Sultan's throne room, which has an elephant figure on its wall and similar columns to these. The drawing is rendered with graphite and blue pencil on 13.75" x 28.5" paper, which is created from two sheets of paper taped together. The piece is in Good to Very Good condition, with a few vertical and horizontal folds, handling and edge wear, and a few stray marks of orange ink.Auction Info
