    Description

A Bug's Life/Army Ants Concept Art (Walt Disney/Pixar, 1989). In 1988, Walt Disney Feature Animation started a "Visual Development Department" to work on potential new animated projects. Longtime character designer and layout artist, Alvaro Arce was hired as a "Visual Designer." This is his elaborate ink/gouache on board concept art for a potential Disney Project called "Army Ants." Magnificent detail in this painting on 11.5" x 15" illustration board. It is interesting that Pixar would release A Bug's Life ten years later and DreamWorks, under former Disney Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, would release Ants. The artwork is signed and dated by artist with notes on back. Very rare look into studio development projects circa 1989. Minor handling and condition is Very Good. From the Alvaro Arce Collection.
