Description
101 Dalmatians Cruella De Vil Original Oversized Character Development Board Signed by Disney Legend Marc Davis (Walt Disney, 1961). "I live for furs! I worship furs! After all, is there a woman in all this wretched world who doesn't?" Cruella was both a larger than life and a once in a lifetime character thanks to Disney Legend and one of Disney's "Nine Old Men" Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) and we are proud to present an incredibly rare oversized character development board created and signed by the artist himself! Davis had animated many unforgettable characters over the years, ranging from Bambi to Tinker Bell to Maleficent, but Cruella was the last character he would bring to life before he retired from the animation department and began helping to design Disneyland attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise. He went out with a bang, and these designs show how the Disney version of the character got her start with Davis' master linework, use of color, and stylization. There are nine full figure drawings and many more close-up images adding up to over 25 overall that play with the fashionista's hairstyle, iconic coat, and attire. These designs were influenced by the Cruella illustrations in the original 101 Dalmatians book created by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone, though Davis later adapted her into his own style. Rendered in mixed media, the concepts have been trimmed and mounted on the enormous 27.5'' x 21'' board that has been backed. The page in the lower right has been signed by Davis, making this lot even more incredible for collectors, fans, and animation enthusiasts.
