    Description

The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Show Lippy the Lion Color Model Cel (Hanna-Barbera, 1962). "There goes Lippy the Lion... and Hardy Har Har!" This is an original Hanna-Barbera hand-painted color model cel of Lippy the Lion. Lippy and his companion Hardy Har Har were voiced by Daws Butler and Mel Blanc. They were designed by Dick Bickenbach (1907 - 1994), who began with Hanna-Barbera in 1957 and became one of the studio's longest running employees He was the man behind character design, layouts, and most all studio model sheets. He helped shape the roster of characters at this studio. This color model cel was created from Dick Bickenbach's original drawings. The model sheet with turn-around poses is dated Oct. 3 1961 and has Bickenbach's initials printed on cel from his original drawing. This would have been one of the first H-B Studio hand-painted cels of this character. The show premiered on 9/3/62, almost a year later. Great painted image of 5". This is a rare look into the character development work of Bickenbach first hand in the early '60s. Minor handling wear.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
