Lost and Foundling Hawk Color Model Cel (Warner Brothers, 1944). Sniffles the Mouse wakes to find an egg in his house, in this short by legendary Warner Brothers director, Chuck Jones. He ultimately hatches what turns out to be a hawk and raises it to adulthood, only for both to discover that mice are a hawk's preferred diet. This is an original hand-inked, hand-painted color model of the hawk both as an adult and a freshly hatched chick. Color models serve as references for the studio cel painters and very few are made. This one is particularly unique in that it features the same character in different points in the film and at different ages. The overall image measures 11" x 7.5 on a 12 field cel that's numbered 77 in the lower right corner. This rare cel dates to the fabled days of Termite Terrace and little original studio artwork from that era exists today. The 75-year-old cels show significant paint loss and would benefit from restoration. Condition is Fair. From the Rev Chaney Archives.
