Description
Goliath II Mouse Color Model/Production Cel Setup (Walt Disney, 1960). This Walt Disney cartoon is about an elephant named Goliath II, who is no bigger than his father's toenail. In contrast, Goliath I is the biggest elephant in all the jungle. He's not satisfied with his son because Goliath II is small. Presented is a RARE color model cel from this almost forgotten 1960 short. The cel feature the Mouse who is the main adversary in the cartoon. The Mouse gets a kick out of scaring elephants so, when Goliath I's herd has a run-in with him, everyone runs away scared of him except for Goliath II. When he realizes that Goliath II isn't scared, he asks why, and Goliath II points out that he and the mouse are of similar size. This fantastic full-figure image is a color model cel. In visual arts, a color model is an animation cel made to ensure correct coloration. Also known as a color test, the cel or sheet is used by other artist as well as ink and paint as a reference tool to help maintain continuity. Color models determine the paint colors for the characters in various lighting and situations they encounter in the film. The image is hand-painted on 12 field acetate and paired with a background copy/print for presentation purposes. The piece is matted to 20" x 16" with an aperture of 12.5" x 10".
