    Description

Fangface Color Model Cel Group of 5 (Ruby-Spears, c. 1979). This briefly-seen Saturday morning cartoon series was notable for several things, chief among them the influence of Bowery Boys actors Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall, whom the main characters Puggsy and Fangs were modeled after. This is a set of five original hand-painted color model cels, featuring Fangface (whenever Fangs saw a full moon, or anything resembling one, he turned into comical werewolf Fangface), with an image size of 5"; Fangpuss (a "baby" werewolf, introduced when the series was featured as part of The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show), a running pose measuring 5"; a front-facing Fangpuss (5"); Puggsy and Fangface (combined image area measures 8" wide by 7" tall); and a second cel of Puggsy and Fangface (combined size 6" x 7". Two of the cels are signed by producer Jerry Eisenberg using his full name, while the other three are signed only as "Jerry." The first Fangpuss cel has some paint chipping and additional paint lifted by contact with another cel, and is in Good condition; the others are in Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
