    Description

"The Art of Preston Blair" Red Hot Riding Hood Color Model Cel with Pin-Up Art Background (MGM, c. 1940s/1990s). "Hey Wolfie, ain't you the one!" Upon leaving Walt Disney Studios after the infamous animator's strike of 1941, Preston Blair went to work at MGM and was placed in the Tex Avery Unit. He animated a shapely woman named "Red Hot" in the 1943 cartoon short Red Hot Riding Hood. This classic cartoon was released on 5/8/43 and was later named #7 in Jerry Beck's great book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons. This is a rare hand-inked, hand-painted color model cel that was painted in the 1990s for book/consumer products use. One can see similar images in John Canemaker's book, Tex Avery: The MGM Years 1942-1955. This is a WOW of a cel with a fantastic full-figure image of 8.5". "Number two" is inked on bottom of the cel. What makes this lot so spectacular is the background: a 1940s Preston Blair (1908 - 1995) original Pin-Up girl, done in graphite and brown pencil on a 12 field animation sheet. This is a Preston Blair hand-drawn original, with a great large image size of 14". What a unique setup and tribute to Preston Blair! Minor handling. Very Good condition. From the Blair Family Trust.
