"The Art of Preston Blair and Red Hot" Color Model Cel with Sketch Background (MGM, c. 1940s-90s). "Hey Wolfie, ain't you the one!" Upon leaving Walt Disney studios after the infamous animators strike of 1941, Preston Blair went to work at MGM and was placed in Tex Avery's unit. He animated the gal named "Red Hot" in the 1943 cartoon Red Hot Riding Hood. This classic cartoon was released on 5/8/43 and was named #7 in Jerry Beck's great book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. This is a very rare hand-inked, hand-painted color model cel that was painted in the 1990s for book/consumer products use. One can see similar images of this in John Canemaker's book Tex Avery: The MGM Years 1942-1955. This is a WOW of a cel with a sweet full-figure image size of 8". The cel is placed over a great Preston Blair original sketch of a town with a street car. It is graphite 12 field 5-peghole Disney animation paper. Nice to have a Preston Blair original drawing to go with this piece! A very unique setup and tribute to Preston Blair. Minor handling on sketch. Overall condition is Very Good. From the Mary Blair Family Trust.
