City Beneath Original Concept Art by Peter Ellenshaw (Walt Disney, c. 1980s). Here's an impressive painting! This is concept art for a proposed Walt Disney live-action feature film titled, City Beneath. The film was to tell the story of a city of elves that live below San Francisco and maintain the infrastructure for the city's world-famous Cable Cars. The painting was created by famed matte painter and production designer, Peter Ellenshaw (1913 – 2007). Ellenshaw is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with over 50 films to his credit. However, it's his extensive association with the Walt Disney Studios that he is most known for, including matte painting and visual effects for, Treasure Island (1950), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), and Mary Poppins (1964) for which he won an Academy Award. This gorgeous Peter Ellenshaw original measures about 20" x 7.5", rendered on board and framed to 26" x 13". Frame sold as-is. The piece is hand-signed by the artist in the lower left. Fine condition.
