    Cinderella Concept Art by Mary Blair (Walt Disney, 1950). Presented is a stunning and RARE piece of Cinderella concept art by legendary Disney artist, Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). An imaginative color stylist and designer, Mary Blair helped introduce modern art to Walt Disney and his Studio. Disney touted her inspirational work for his films and theme parks for over 30 years! One of "Walt's Nine Old Men", Marc Davis said, "She brought modern art to Walt in a way that no one else did. He was so excited about her work." Mary's unique color and styling greatly influenced such Disney postwar productions as Song of the South, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Cinderella. Another one of "Walt's Nine Old Men", Frank Thomas said, "Mary was the first artist I knew of to have different shades of red next to each other. You just didn't do that! But Mary made it work." In this magnificent early Blair concept piece, we see Lady Tremaine and her cat Lucifer. These are early designs. Concept art grows out of a design process, well rooted in an idea that supports the story. Visual development is simply the visual evolution from an idea to the final product. This piece was rendered in gouache on 9.5" x 8" board. The art is framed to 13.5" x 12" with a matboard aperture of 9" x 7.75". Frame sold as-is. An absolutely exquisite painting, pure Mary Blair! Condition is Very Good.
