    Description

Chuck Jones - The Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote Color Sketch (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). In Chuck Jones' book, Chuck Amuck: The Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist, he writes about certain rules for making a Road Runner and Coyote cartoon. One is "Whenever possible, make gravity the coyote's greatest enemy. For example, falling off a cliff." Here is a Chuck Jones Road Runner rule in plain sight! This is a fantastic one-of-a kind Chuck Jones original watercolor painting of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote enacting that exact rule. Beautiful colors in this action gag painting. The Road Runner is making a point with his sign "CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR." The painting is signed by Chuck Jones in the bottom corner and comes with a Linda Jones Letter of Authenticity. Framed with Plexiglas, with a mat opening of 14" x 10". Nice full-figure images of 4" to 7". Vibrant colors. Great to have a Road Runner/Wile E. painting with a gag!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
