    Description

Chuck Jones "Bugs Bunny and Bull" Original Drawing and 1 of 1 Cel (Warner Brothers, 1984). "What a gulli-bull! What a nin-cow-poop!" Matador Bugs laughs at raging bull Toro, in this original hand-drawn sketch by the great Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002). The drawing is in ink over graphite, with image sizes of 6" and 6.5". It was inspired by the Jones-directed short, Bully for Bugs (1953). According to his autobiography Chuck Amuck, the cartoon came to be after a producer burst into Jones' workspace and told him specifically not to do a cartoon about bullfighting. This was the same producer who thought Pepé Le Pew wasn't funny, so he had to be wrong! The drawing is matted with a special one-of-one hand-inked, hand-painted cel, making this a double delight! The drawing and cel are matted together, with opening sizes of 12" x 9" and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 21" x 29". A Linda Jones COA is included on the backside. Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
