Chip and Dale Title Cel and Painted Production Background (Walt Disney, c. 1940s-50s). The beloved Chip an' Dale made their first appearance in 1943's Private Pluto. Their second short was in 1946, called Squatters Rights. They did not have names in these cartoons. Their first branded-with-actual-names cartoon was called Chip and Dale. It was released on 11/28/47 and was the first of many times that they would match wits with Donald Duck. The short was directed by Jack Hannah and had animation in part done by "Mr. Chip and Dale" -- Disney Legend Inductee, Bill Justice. This is the rare hand-painted title cel/card painting that opened the cartoon. It's painted with gouache on light background board. The hand-painted cel of their names is over the painted background. This is a very important piece of Chip and Dale as well as Disney history. The title lettering seems to be slightly different coloring on screen but that can be due to lighting, or they may have used several name title cels as tests. This historic title cel is in a frame of 18" x 15" with a mat opening of 11" x 9". Frame is sold as-is. Cel and background have minor handling. Very Good condition.
