Charles Schulz Peanuts Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 10/9/51 (United Feature Syndicate, 1951). There's music in the air in this one-of-a-kind Peanuts daily strip when Charlie Brown and Snoopy in the first panel, Patty and Violet in the second panel, and Shermy on his tricycle in the third panel decide to join Schroeder at the piano in the fourth panel for an amazing six-character song! The piece is from the hand of Charles Schulz (1922 - 2000) and demonstrates his sure hand and supple linework. Schulz is widely regarded as one of the most influential cartoonists of all time, cited by cartoonists including Jim Davis and Matt Groening. Schulz's first group of regular cartoons was a weekly series of one-panel jokes called Lil' Folks in 1947. It was in Li'l Folks that Schulz first used the name Charlie Brown for a character, although he applied the name in four gags to three different boys as well as one buried in sand. This early installment features the early "versions" of the characters, including Charlie Brown's smaller feet and gi-normous head (more oval than round here), and Snoopy's smaller, more puppy-like appearance. Since Peanuts officially premiered on October 2, 1950, this strip from October 9, 1951 marks the near beginning of the comic's second year in syndication. Early Charles Schulz original artwork is highly prized by collectors and this one is no exception. A "must-have" for Schulz fans! The strip measures 27.75" x 5.75", signed by the artist and floated in a frame of 30" x 8". Frame sold as-is. This strip can be seen on page 107 of The Complete Peanuts by Charles Schulz. Artwork condition is Very Good with a fold crease in the center, edge wear, glue residue and smudges.
