    Description

Catty Cornered Sylvester Production Cel with Master Production Background (Warner Brothers, 1953). This fantastic Sylvester and Tweety cartoon is notable as the one that introduced the diminutive gangster Rocky to the world. In this Friz Freleng-directed short, the rare and valuable Tweety bird is being held ransom by Rocky and his original partner Nick who find themselves between an alley cat and his prospective dinner. The original hand-inked, hand-painted 12 field production cel features a full-figure image of a scheming Sylvester who stands 4.5" tall. It can be seen at the 2:03 mark just as he has tossed his original meal of garbage away and sets off to capture Tweety. The cel is over an original hand-painted production background of the Ajax Construction sight at the 4:38 mark and is marked Sc - 40-1775. The backgrounds for this cartoon were painted by Freleng Unit artist Irv Wyner (1904 - 2002). This an exceptional vintage Master production setup from a cartoon that introduced us to a new Warner Brothers character. The piece shows minor handling and pinholes in the corner of the background. Condition is Very Good.
