DescriptionCarmen's Veranda Production Background Art Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1944). This Gandy Goose short effortlessly mixed "stage" scenes with "real" locations in presenting the faux opera "Carmen's Veranda." Here are two original hand-painted 12 field 3-top peghole production backgrounds from this Mannie Davis-directed short, which was released on 7/28/44, both showing the orchestra pit. The first shows the spotlight on the conductor's stand, seen as he frantically leads the band; it's noted as Sc 51, and appears in YouTube viewings at the 4:26 mark. The second painted background is noted as Sc 70, and occurs at the 5:44 mark after Gandy/Tyrone saves Carmen, as a monkey drummer bangs on the three kettle drums. Both are painted in gouache/watercolor with airbrushed highlights on skimmed boards with Terrytoons stamps on the reverse. Good to Very Good condition, with glue stains on Sc 51 piece, and minor handling/edge wear on both.
