Description
Buzzy Boop Backyard Club House Master Background (Fleischer Studios, 1938). "Well here's one for you to try if you're so good." Buzzy Boop, Betty's tomboy cousin, shows the neighborhood boys how to really do a high bar flip in her eponymous introductory short from which comes this fantastic backyard Master background complete with club house. Buzzy Boop debuted near the end of Betty's theatrical career on July 29, 1938, with the rambunctious young girl making only one other appearance in the follow-up short Buzzy Boop at the Concert a few months later. Her self-titled short saw Buzzy arrive by train for a stay with cousin Betty, creating plenty of mischief along the way. Once settled in, Buzzy tries to make friends with the boys next door, but has to prove her worth to be considered "one of the guys." This outstanding Master background can be spotted near the 5:21 timestamp as Buzzy one-ups a boy's clothesline flip in favor of a double flip on a much higher cable. It has been hand-painted with masterful detail in monochrome gouache to a nearly edge-to-edge image area of 11.75" x 9.5" on 12 field background board with the production codes B8-1 (Sc. - 17) along the top edge. The reverse side features a studio stamp dated April and May 1938 with several studio artists' signatures and the matching B8-1 production code. The background has been matted to an overall size of 17" x 15.25" with an aperture of 11" x 9.25"; mat sold as-is. With typical handling and edge wear including light age-related toning, minor surface wear with pinpoint areas of paint loss, and a 0.25" tear near the center of the lower edge, overall this remarkable black-and-white Master background is in Very Good condition.More information about Fleischer Studios.
