Bambi Ronno Head Animator's Maquette (Walt Disney, 1942). Ronno is the slightly-older buck who Bambi fights a duel with in one of the climaxes of the 1942 Walt Disney feature film Bambi. He appears in the scene where Bambi is first "twitterpated" at the sight of Faline. Ronno interrupts Bambi's daydream in which he is romantically bounding over clouds with Faline. The angry buck pushes Bambi away from Faline, determined to have Faline for himself. This culminates in a dramatic duel that has some of the most striking animation of the whole film. This incredibly rare animator's maquette was used in the development of Bambi. Maquettes like this one are created so that animators can see the characters they are drawing from all sides to more accurately portray them, and maquettes used in production are very scarce. This maquette is even more unique, as it depicts a character who doesn't appear for very long on screen but still serves as one of the main antagonists of one of the most dramatic sequences from the film. This wonderful maquette is made of cast plaster mounted on a wooden base. The piece was repainted by original Character Model Department maquette painter Helen Nerbovig McIntosh (1915 - 1992), who was working in the department during the time this maquette would have originally been made. The maquette is numbered #3 on its base, and it is also signed by Fred Kopietz, an animator who worked on many Disney productions. This likely means that this maquette was used by Kopietz during the film's production. The piece measures about 8.25" tall, with the base having a width of 5.75". The piece is in Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear. There are a few minor cracks, and the wooden base has some staining.
