Bambi Production Cel with Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1942). "Wake up, wake up, the New Prince is born!" says Thumper to all the forest animals just waking up. This is an outstanding hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of the field mice waking up in their straw home to the news. The trimmed to image cels are on their Key Master hand-painted production background. You can see this image around the 3:11 mark into the film after the titles. Backgrounds on this film were painted by Merle Cox, Tyrus Wong, Art Riley, Robert McIntosh, Travis Johnson, W. Richard Anthony, Stan Spahn, Ray Huffine, Ed Levitt, and Joe Stanley. Background is painted in gouache on 12 field, 5-peghole background board. It has studio stamp and is marked Sequence 1.1 and Scene 9.1 and initialed with OK approval stamp as well. This rare Key Master setup is in a mat of 16" x 14" with a mat opening of 10" x 8.5". Minor handling and tape on back of background, overall Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
