Bambi In-Studio Gag Drawings of Retta Scott Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1942). Retta Scott became the first female to receive screen credit in a Disney animated feature film, for Bambi. She was inducted as a Disney Legend in 2000. A woman working in an almost all-male environment in the early 1940s could have its challenges. Here are a series of three in-studio gag drawings where the brunt of the joke is Retta Scott. All are done on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper by her co-workers. The first one is graphite with color pencil and it shows Retta hand-flipping animation drawings at her desk, saying "LOOK! It Moves!!" The second drawing is a rough of perpetually cold Retta with heat lamps and bonfires aglow, as she sips hot tea and works at her desk. The third co-worker gag drawing is a beautiful gouache painting on 12 field animation paper that is titled "The New Hat," showing Retta walking around with her new chapeau. Great insight into the working relationships at Walt Disney studios during the making of Bambi. Fine condition. From the Retta Scott Archives.
