    Description

Bambi Concept Paintings by Maurice Noble (Walt Disney, 1942). Maurice Noble (1911 - 2001) began his career with the Walt Disney Studios in 1934 and thrived there until his participation in the 1941 strike. Some of his last work at Disney was on Bambi. He was part of Art Director Tom Codrick's team which also included David Hall, Gustaf Tenggren, Harold Miles, Travis Johnson, Charles Paysant, Zack Schwartz, Lew Keller, John Arensma, Stan Spahn, Jules Engel, and Dick Anthony. Mr. Noble is one of the most respected production designers, background and layout artists in the history of animation with a career spanning over 60 years. This is a pair of original concept watercolor paintings he created during his work on Bambi with one painting depicting an adult Bambi in the forest, and the other a meadow. In 1981 they were on temporary display at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. A photo of Mr. Noble holding these pieces is on the back of the frame along with his signature. The two concept pieces share a common frame of 19.5" x 9" with dual mat openings of 6" x 5". Condition of the art is Very Good and the frame is sold as-is.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
