Bambi Bambi and Flower Courvoisier Multiplane 3D Setup (Walt Disney, 1942). Courvoisier Galleries was the first company to recognize cels and drawings used in the production of Disney Studios animated features as fine art. They were also the first to be given a license to sell studio artwork, which they did through art galleries and department stores from the late '30s through the mid '40s. But for Courvoisier, what little original Disney artwork there is available today would not exist. This is an extraordinary example of one of the rarest forms of animation art that Courvoisier sold. It is a 3-dimensional setup used in Disney's revolutionary Multiplane filming process. While other studios had experimented with similar ideas, Disney is credited with perfecting the multiplane camera on a grand scale for use in the feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The process allowed for up to seven layers of animation at once. Images were painted in oil on glass and could be set at different depths to create dimensional environments. This is a scene with Bambi and Flower painted on multiple layers of glass over an airbrushed background. It is in its original Courvoisier Frame with original sticker on back. The 7.75" x 8.25" frame has an opening that measures 5.5" x 6". It shows minor handling and a small section of the cardboard strips separating the panes of glass has shifted in the frame, but is not noticeable in normal viewing. Condition is Fine. Frame is sold as-is.
