Description
Walt Disney Ephemera: The Art of Animation Brochure with Original Studio Envelope and 2003 Sealed Disney Classic Poster Calendars Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1958). When Walt Disney (1901- 1966) was producing the 16th animated feature film Sleeping Beauty (1959), he realized that a great way to publicize the "high art" concept approach of the film was to put together a traveling exhibit showcasing the history of animation and how the animation process was done. Thus, the Art of Animation Exhibition was created and premiered on 12/11/1958 at the San Francisco Museum of Art which contained more original Disney art than any previous exhibition. The souvenir booklet, or catalog, which is in this lot accompanied the exhibition throughout its run - making it almost 70 years old and a must-have for any Disney collector! The Art of Animation tour lasted 11 months visiting 20 U.S. locations with a few visits abroad to Europe and Japan. Walt accomplished two goals with the touring exhibition: to use the exhibition as a marketing tool to support the release of Sleeping Beauty since the film was in development and production for most of the 1950s costing an astonishing $6 million dollars. The other was to cement himself and his studio within the history of fine art and establish that they belong there. Included in this lot are two sealed vintage Disney 2003 classic movie poster art calendars that feature Mickey Mouse on the front and other vintage movies such as Steamboat Willie and The Three Caballeros. The calendar measures 13.5" x 19" and is printed on textured thicker canvas-like paper. The souvenir booklet measures 9" x 8" and the accompanying studio envelope measures slightly larger at 10.5" x 9.5". The overall condition is Very Good to Fine with minor handling wear and edge wear.Auction Info
