Description

TRON Yori and Tron DELETED LOVE SCENE Ektachrome Continuous-Tone Transparency (Walt Disney, 1982). "They move together into an embrace, but their lips never touch. All the energy is transmitted through their hands." Displaying affection deemed "too sentimental" for computer programs, Yori and Tron are presented in this original black and white Kodalith (often referred to by TRON collectors as an Ektachrome) from a deleted love scene in Disney's visually striking 1982 sci-fi classic. The unfinished scene, which does not contain audio, can be viewed in the Deleted Scenes Featurette included with some home media releases with this moment spotted near the compilation's 4:33 timestamp. Commonly referred to as the "morning after" scene, this is uniquely the only deleted scene with a CGI shot produced by MAGI; a print from the featurette is included for reference. Though this unconventional romance between Yori (Cindy Morgan) and the titular Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) was ultimately removed from the film, both Visual Effects Supervisor Harrison Ellenshaw and eventually Director Steven Lisberger expressed regret at its removal. The film received the Academy Award® for Technical Achievement fourteen years after its initial release. To achieve the desired effect, actors and sets in TRON were initially photographed in black-and-white. This Kodalith was enlarged from 65mm B&W fine-grain film, part of the original stage photography by DP Bruce Logan. Framed enlargements were placed over a light source and re-photographed through colored camera filters. The computers at the time could not do animation, so the frames had to be produced one by one. This Kodalith measures 20" x 12.5" with an image area of 19.25" x 8.5" and includes production codes along the peghole edge. It presents a peek into a romantic subplot that was lamentably left on the cutting room floor while still serving as a visual testament to the film's lasting influence on science fiction cinema. With typical handling and edge wear, overall this heartfelt pairing of Programs is in Very Good condition.
