Description

Tokyo Disneyland - 25th Anniversary Bronze Featuring Mickey Mouse Holding a Pewter Key (Walt Disney, 2008). An exquisite bronze sculpture of Mickey Mouse, elegantly attired in a tuxedo and holding a pewter key, released in 2008 to commemorate Tokyo Disneyland's 25th anniversary. Standing about 8" tall, the piece celebrates a landmark park whose 115 acres opened on April 15, 1983-the first Disney theme park outside the United States. The dream of a Japanese Disneyland reaches back to the late 1950s, when businessman Kunizo Matsuo approached Walt Disney with a proposal for a park in Nara. Though initially embraced, the plan paused until February 1974, when the Oriental Land Company hosted Disney executives for a fact-finding tour. By June, OLC president Chiharu Kawasaki visited The Walt Disney Company to affirm their commitment, and in April 1979, then-president Masatomo Takahashi signed the initial construction contract that paved the way for opening day. This commemorative bronze captures Mickey as a ceremonial host, the pewter key symbolizing welcome, legacy, and imagination. A beautifully cast, display-ready tribute to a historic collaboration between Disney and OLC, it presents in Very Good condition-an exceptional keepsake for dedicated Disney collectors.
