Description
Donald Duck Portfolio with Print Complete Group of 8 and Ephemera Group of 4 (Walt Disney, c. 1930-50s). Donald Duck takes center stage in this lot with a wonderful collection of printed items featuring the bad-tempered duck: a complete portfolio of eight stupendous prints, a postcard, a birthday card, a reminder card, and an ink blotter from Sunoco Oil. Created by famous animators Dick Lundy (1907-1990) and Walt Disney (1901-1966), Donald made his first appearance in the short "The Wise Little Hen" in 1934, with his short-billed design appearing on the 1936 cartoon "Moving Day." The complete set of eight 8.75" x 11.75" hand-painted color prints shows fabulous images of Donald, Pluto, Daisy, and even his nephews, published by King Features Syndicate. These prints are accompanied by a letter from Frank J. Nicht, sales manager of King Features, dated November 4, 1941, offering this rare set of prints. The lot also showcases a 3.5" x 5.5" postcard showing Donald, Fiddler Pig, Fifer Pig, Huey, and Dewey; a 4.25" x 5.5" birthday card showing Donald launched out of his seat by a spring; a 3.75" x 5.75" Sunoco reminder card with a covered Donald looking ready for summer when opened; and a 6" x 3.75" ink blotter showing an armored Donald driving a military Jeep.Auction Info
