Disney Legend Award Presented to André Vannest (Walt Disney, 1997). André Vannest (1927 - 1995) may not be a well-known name to casual Disney fans but his contributions to the studio earned him this posthumous Disney Legend Award, the holy grail of all awards given out by the Walt Disney Company. Mr. Vannest was based in Brussels, Belgium where he served as manager to the commercial department at an ad agency; he helped to promote Disney publications like Donald Duck Magazine, and under his watch, this magazine sold as many as 380,000 issues - a week! He worked with Disney, first as part of the Screpta Brussels ad agency, and then as a full-time Disney employee when the studio purchased the agency in 1973. The award is a hand-crafted bronze depicting Mickey Mouse holding a star-tipped wand. On the award, the Spiral stands for imagination, the power of an idea. The hand holds the gift of skill, discipline and craftsmanship. The wand and star represent magic -- that spark that is ignited when imagination and skill have combined to create a new dream. The Disney Legend is a Disney Studio Hall of Fame Program that recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary and integral contributions to the Walt Disney Company. The award was established in 1987. Only a handful of these awards have ever come up for sale. The Award statue is approximately 24" high on a wooden base. It is in Very Good to Fine condition with minor handling wear on the base. We've said it before, and we'll say it again - this is the pinnacle for Disney Studio awards!Auction Info
