Description

Carl Barks "This Dollar Saved My Life at Whitehorse" Scrooge McDuck RARE Sold-Out Limited Edition Porcelain Sculpture #115/235 (Walt Disney/Another Rainbow/Capodimonte, 1998). Work in the Money Bin stops as Donald and the boys listen intently to Uncle Scrooge as he tells the story of his prospecting days in the Yukon territory, specifically the town of Whitehorse. This is the largest and most magnificent of all the sculpted figurines based on the comic book work of Carl Barks. It's based on a 1973 painting by Barks, which was in turn based on a panel in the first Uncle Scrooge comic book, "Only a Poor Old Man" (published as Four Color #386 in 1952). It's a limited edition produced jointly for the Walt Disney Company by Bruce Hamilton's Another Rainbow publishing house and the Italian porcelain firm Capodimonte, with the original sculpture by Enzo Arzenton. Although the edition size is noted as 235, most experts agree only 136 pieces were actually produced. The wooden base has a small brass plaque on the back noted as "Forest Collectibles Edition 115/235". The large size is truly impressive, as is the amount of intricate hand-painted detail. The sculpture measures approximately 12.5" high by 16" wide by 12.5" deep, weighing about 20 lbs. All the small pieces that are often missing, like the coin in Scrooge's hand and his glasses, are intact here. The condition is Fine with very light handling wear.
