DescriptionAlice in Wonderland Story/Concept Art Group of 4 (Walt Disney, c. 1939/40). In 1938, Disney formally registered the title Alice in Wonderland with the Motion Picture Association of America and began preliminary work on the project. A glimpse of his art for this project was first seen by the public in the Giant Golden Book Walt Disney's Surprise Package. In this lot are four early concept/storyboard pieces from Disney's first pass at this adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice stories. The first piece is an extraordinary full color rendering of the Mad Hatter and March Hare. The exquisitely detailed 7" x 5.25" artwork is rendered in graphite and colored with gouache on 8.25" x 8.75" P-212 5-peghole storyboard paper. With it is a sequence of three loose graphite drawings of the March Hare also on P-212 paper. It is a very rare collection of original one-of-a-kind artwork that provides a fascinating look at the origins of this classic Disney film from its first incarnation. All show minor handling and there is a crease in the upper right corner of the colored rendering. Condition is Very Good.
