Alice in Wonderland Book Illustration Painting by Mel Crawford (Walt Disney, 1951). This film premiered in London on 7/26/51, and then on 7/28/51 in New York. It had one of the most ambitious pre-opening marketing campaigns of any Disney feature animated film. There was a television special that aired on Christmas Day 1950 called One Hour in Wonderland, as well a ten-minute "making-of" film called Operation: Wonderland. Both of these were shown well before the film was released. In conjunction with the movie, "Little Nipper Giant Storybook Record Album" was issued by RCA. It had two 78 rpm records inside a 22-page, lavishly illustrated book, measuring 10.5" x 13". The book was illustrated by legendary artist Mel Crawford (1925-2015). Mr. Crawford worked for Disney and Western Publishing and did illustrations for over 200 Little Golden Books. This original Mel Crawford painting showcases Giant Alice, Nesting Mother Bird, the White Rabbit, and Alice, talking with the Daffodils. This was for the back cover page, with room left for text and credits. The album included songs by four main character actors in the film -- Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Jerry Colonna, and Sterling Holloway. Gouache on illustration board, with a size of 11" x 14.5". The main image of Alice is 13", as she takes up almost the entire board. A color photocopy of the actual back cover is included. Framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 20" x 23". Frame is sold as-is. Art is in Fine condition.
