Alice in Wonderland Alice and Queen of Hearts Concept Drawing by David Hall (Walt Disney, 1939). In 1938, Disney formally registered the title Alice in Wonderland with the Motion Picture Association of America and began serious preliminary work on this project. David Hall was brought in to work on the story on March 1, 1939. He went on to produce more than 400 paintings, drawings, and sketches, and each one was a small masterpiece. In the autumn of 1939, the studio produced a "Leica reel" of the Alice story, using Hall's artwork. A glimpse of his art for this project was first seen by the public in the Giant Golden Book Walt Disney's Surprise Package. A chapter on Alice in Wonderland used all David Hall artwork for the chapter's illustrations. This is a David Hall original concept drawing, in graphite, of Alice standing with the King and Queen of Hearts, and her guards. It can be seen on page 56. Graphite on paper panel with a size of 7" x 8". The number "56" is written in the bottom border. Beautifully detailed graphite drawing, matted with an overall size of 12.5" x 10.5", with a mat opening size of 7" x 5.5". Minor handling wear and tape on the borders, under the mat. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
