Aladdin Painted Production Background (Walt Disney, 1992). "Well, I feel sheepish. Alright, you b-a-a-a-d boy, but no more freebies!" This is the scene where Aladdin reminds the Genie that getting out of the cave was his idea and not one of Aladdin's wishes. The 1992 theatrical release of Aladdin was a huge box office success, thanks in no small part to Robin William's performance as the Genie. In 1993 an auction of original hand-painted production backgrounds from the film was held in New York. where only 250 original backgrounds were offered. By this time production cels were a thing of the past for Disney Feature Animation, so the studio took original archived animation drawings from each background scene and had the Disney Ink and Paint Department create one-of-one cels to accompany each background. The auction brought record prices for the time and this is lot number 138 from the sale. The beautiful backgrounds from Aladdin were overseen by background supervisors Ric Slaiter and Kathy Altieri. This cel, featuring a 5.5" tall Genie, and production background setup is framed with a mat opening of 11" x 16", in a 20" x 24" frame. A Disney seal is on the cel and a Disney Certificate of Authenticity is on the back of frame. A very limited amount of original art from this hit Disney feature film is available for sale. Condition is Fine.
