'The Disney Strike" Gag Drawings by Jesse Marsh (Walt Disney, 1941). Self-taught artist Jesse Marsh (1907 - 1966) is known as the man who brought the first original Tarzan stories to comic books published by Dell. He also drew stories for Gene Autry Comics. He began his art career at the Walt Disney Studio in 1939 in the story department, working on Pinocchio and Fantasia. He left the studio in 1947, but did work on Disney "True Life Adventure" comic books in the late 1950s. This is a group of rare Jesse Marsh studio gag drawings about the famous Disney Studio Strike of 1941. Here are ten panels on 8" x 9" 5-peghole storyboard paper marked P-212, of a gag/story called "The Three Little Pickets." It showcases the angry Picket Line people harassing staffers who still reported to the studio. One looks to be Roy Williams. All done in loose graphite and Conte crayon. Two other detailed studio gag drawings are done on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. One has a Teamster reference, and one a Gunther Lessing reference, the studio's Corporate Attorney. All have minor handling and edge wear. Good overall condition.
