    Description

"Red Hot Riding Hood" Color Model Cel and Preston Blair Book (MGM, c. 1990s). "Hay Wolfie, ain't you the one!" After leaving Disney during the infamous 1941 animator's strike, Preston Blair went to work at MGM and was placed in the Tex Avery Unit. He animated a shapely woman named Red Hot in the 1943 short Red Hot Riding Hood. This classic cartoon was released on 5/8/43, and was later named #7 in Jerry Beck's great book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons. This is a rare hand-inked, hand-painted Color Model cel painted in the 1990s for book/consumer products use. You can see this image on page 56 of the Beck book as well as images from that scene in the book Tex Avery by John Canemaker. This is a wow of a cel, with a classic image measuring 7". Also included is an original softcover copy of Walter T. Foster's Learn How to Draw Animated Cartoons -- Advanced Animation by Preston Blair. The cover of this book is hand-signed by Preston Blair (1908 -1995). On pages 28 and 29 are images in sequence of Red Hot for learning how to animate "The Strut." All MGM characters are used in this how-to book. These items are from the Mary Blair Family Trust. Preston Blair was the brother of Mary Blair's husband, Lee Blair. Minor handling and edge wear to book. Cel condition is Very Good. From the Mary Blair Family Trust Archives.
